Trump and Musk Dismiss Conflict of Interest Concerns Over Government Role

US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk dismissed concerns over potential conflicts of interest arising from Musk’s leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) while owning major companies like Tesla and SpaceX.

In a Fox News interview, Trump praised Musk’s role in auditing federal agencies and reducing waste, calling him a visionary who attracts top talent. Addressing the issue of conflicts, Trump assured that Musk “won’t be involved” in any situation where his business interests overlap with government duties.

Musk echoed this stance, stating, “I’ll recuse myself,” and asserting that he has never sought personal favors from the administration. Trump reinforced his confidence in Musk’s integrity, emphasizing that unlike others who might take advantage of such a position, Musk’s focus is on improving government efficiency rather than personal gain. He described Musk as a “very good person” who is genuinely invested in the country’s future.

Trump appointed Musk to lead DOGE on his first day in office, tasking the commission with eliminating wasteful spending and streamlining federal operations. Despite skepticism from critics, Trump continues to defend Musk’s appointment, crediting him with bringing fresh innovation to government oversight.
