Dark Backrooms Wage Multidimensional Media War Against Algeria, its Institutions

ALGIERS — Credible reports reveal the existence of several dark backrooms that are waging an insidious multidimensional media war against Algeria and its institutions, exploiting artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technologies, which Algeria is firmly confronting through advanced technological solutions developed by Algerian experts.

The same reports note that Algeria is facing an insidious media war orchestrated by the hostile forces—funded by various countries and operating from multiple capital cities.

These dark backrooms manipulate search engines, algorithms and keywords, while setting up thousands of websites staffed by an armada of journalists, particularly based in Morocco, France and other countries with the sole objective of monitoring Algerian affairs.

Dozens of newsrooms within television channels and international newspapers, especially those in the Gulf and Europe, have fallen under the influence of the French media lobby. Working in tandem with Morocco’s Makhzen regime, this lobby is implicated in disinformation campaigns, blackmail and media corruption—all in exchange for advancing covert agendas and spreading anti-Algerian narratives.

In addition, Moroccan Makhzen intelligence services exploit thousands of journalists from different nationalities, bribing them to mount smear campaigns targeting Algeria’s foreign policy.

The recent statements by Communication Minister Mohamed Meziane regarding the hidden face of the underhanded media war being waged against Algeria have only revealed the tip of the iceberg. His remarks shed light on the underlying operations of multinational media armadas marshalled by backrooms of the axis of evil to smear everything Algerian. These operations inundate international media outlets and social networks with a deluge of misinformation and falsehoods, with a view to undermining Algerian institutions through the manipulation of search engine and social network algorithms.

The Minister of Communication, who has a diplomatic background and is an expert in media soft power strategy across multiple levels, pointed out during a widely-interpreted conference the identification of over 9,000 journalists known for their hostility toward Algeria. According to him these journalists are being manipulated in different countries worldwide to demonize everything Algerian, serving the agendas of hostile circles.

Observers note that the minister’s statements during his media appearance were not made in a vacuum but were based on substantive data. His approach was proactive—sounding the alarm and alerting Algerians about schemes being hatched in the backrooms of the axis of evil.

The objective is to ensure that national media outlets pay extremely close attention to raising public awareness about maneuvers targeting Algeria. This, in turn, aims to encourage Algerians to develop critical thinking skills regarding media content and not to be misled by manipulative groups amid the proliferation of fake news, the AI revolution and the involvement of thousands of journalists in these biased campaigns.

In this respect, anyone following Algerian news online will encounter biased results when using search engines like Google. This reveals another type of algorithmic battle that prioritizes misleading articles and false information.

A similar scenario unfolds on social media platforms, though in a different manner. This algorithmic warfare is powered by electronic trolls, aiming to ensure that Moroccan publications hostile to Algeria gain maximum visibility across different platforms.

Algeria, however, like other countries worldwide, has cutting-edge technological applications developed by Algerian experts that routinely monitor all articles about Algeria published in international media outlets or on social media.

Any Algerian can run searches about Algeria in multiple languages on search engines to get instant notifications whenever news content about Algeria is published. Yet, they encounter thousands of articles, publications and videos about Algeria from non-Algerian sources, exposing journalists and bloggers who have made demonizing Algeria their occupation.
