Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomes AU’s stance on displacement plans

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry expressed its support for the closing statement issued by the 38th Ordinary Summit of the African Union on Sunday, which reaffirmed that the displacement of Palestinians from their land is a “violation of international law,” according to WAFA news agency.
According to excerpts from the statement, reported by the Palestinian news agency, the document condemned “Israel’s war and brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip” and “rejected Israel’s violations of international law, particularly its attacks on civilians and infrastructure.” It further stated that “the displacement of Palestinians from their land violates international law” and called for the Zionist entity to be held accountable for “committing genocide against the Palestinian people.”
The African Union leaders called for “a halt to any form of cooperation or normalisation with Israel until it ends its occupation and aggression against Palestine,” WAFA added.
In a related statement, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its support for the African Union’s stance, particularly regarding the occupation and its plans for displacement and annexation.
The summit began on Saturday with the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other African leaders, as well as representatives from international and regional organisations.
Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump, during a press conference with Benjamin Netanyahu, disclosed plans to take control of Gaza by displacing its entire Palestinian population to neighbouring countries, namely, Egypt and Jordan.
President Donald Trump’s plan for the United States to “take over” Gaza, permanently displacing Palestinians who live there and creating the “Riviera of the Middle East,” has sparked backlash from Arab nations and Western allies, with critics saying that it amounted to “ethnic cleansing”.
In the same context, the Zionist occupation on Sunday received a shipment of heavy MK-84 bombs from the United States, after Trump lifted a block imposed on the export of the munitions by the administration of predecessor Joe Biden.
As for the ceasefire agreement, the first phase ends in two weeks, and negotiations were meant to begin two weeks ago on the second phase, in which the Zionist occupation would release Palestinian prisoners in exchange for captives, in addition to a lasting truce and the withdrawal of occupying forces.
Trump’s special Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, told Fox News that “phase two is absolutely going to begin” and he had “very productive” talks with mediators about continuing negotiations this week.
Gaza’s Health Ministry has confirmed 48,271 Palestinian martyrs in the Zionist occupation’s genocidal war on Gaza, while 111,693 people have been wounded. The Government Media Office has updated its toll to at least 61,709 people, saying thousands missing under the rubble are now presumed dead.
