Tunis African Judo Open “Juniors”: Algeria Secures 2nd Place with 12 Medals, Including 2 Golds
TUNIS, February 14, 2025 – The Algerian junior judo team finished second overall at the ” Tunis African Open” tournament, which concluded on Thursday evening in Tunisia.
The young Algerian athletes achieved a total of twelve medals: 2 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze, placing them behind the host nation, Tunisia, which dominated the competition with 4 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Iran rounded out the podium with 2 gold and 1 bronze medal.
Algeria’s gold medals were secured by Haouam Nazim in the men’s 73 kg category and Hanane Brahimi in the women’s under 57 kg category. Additionally, their teammates Oussama Hazil (-66 kg), Sid Ali Benaboura (-90 kg), Sebki Mohamed Amokrane (+100 kg), and Chanez Aliouane (-70 kg) earned silver medals.
The national tally was further bolstered by six bronze medals claimed by Zidi Mouad Cheikh (-60 kg), Imad Mehibel (-73 kg), Sekkal Amine (-73 kg), Bouyacoub Ahmed Sami (-100 kg), Nourhane Ghazali (-57 kg), and Yassemine Youcefi (+78 kg).
The Algerian team comprised a total of 21 judokas (17 boys and 4 girls), but only twelve managed to reach the podium, while the others were eliminated in the early rounds.
According to the organizers, nearly 130 judokas (both male and female) from 17 countries participated in this tournament, with Tunisia having the largest representation, featuring 38 judokas (21 boys and 17 girls).
