Pakistan: Explosion Claims 10 Lives Near Mine, Authorities Report

QUETTA (Pakistan), February 14, 2025 – An explosive device aimed at a vehicle transporting miners to a coal mine in southwestern Pakistan has resulted in the deaths of at least 10 individuals and injured seven others, according to media reports on Friday, citing sources.

The truck was carrying workers to a mine located in the Harnai region of Balochistan province. “A homemade explosive was planted by the roadside and detonated as the truck arrived at the site,” stated a local official, as reported by the media. The official further indicated that “it could have been a remote-controlled device.”

Hazrat Wali Agha, the deputy commissioner of the area, noted that “17 miners were inside the truck when the bomb exploded.” A doctor from the local hospital reported that “two of the injured are in critical condition.”
