Moscow Open to Serious Talks on Peaceful Ukraine Settlement, Says Ambassador

Moscow is prepared for a serious discussion regarding a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine conflict, but it is not deviating from its previously stated position, Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin said in an interview with ITV. Kelin emphasized that while Russia is open to talks, it will stick firmly to its stance, which he believes strengthens their position as Russia continues its offensive.

The ambassador mentioned that the outcome of upcoming weeks and months will be crucial, but any discussions must be based on the draft peace agreement discussed in Istanbul in 2022. Kelin also suggested that Russia may not be willing to reach an agreement until Ukraine holds new presidential elections.

Additionally, Kelin confirmed that Russia is conducting “very preliminary contacts” with the United States, aiming to assess the situation and define the margins of possible agreements. However, he stated it was too early to expect any serious proposals to be presented.
