UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy Visits Kyiv to Strengthen Support for Ukraine

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrived in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on Wednesday for an official visit, less than a month after the signing of the “100 Year Partnership” agreement between Kyiv and London during a visit by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
According to a statement from the UK Foreign Office, Lammy’s visit aims to reaffirm the UK’s ongoing support for Ukraine, as the Russia-Ukraine war approaches its fourth year. Lammy’s visit will also provide an opportunity to assess how the UK can further strengthen Ukraine’s position in the conflict.
During the visit, Lammy will announce a new support package totaling £55 million ($68.7 million) aimed at enhancing resilience and fostering growth in both the UK and Ukraine. This package includes £3 million for the transportation of Ukrainian grain and other food products to Syria, fulfilling a commitment made by Prime Minister Starmer to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Additionally, Lammy will unveil £17 million in funding for innovative energy projects, designed to support the recovery and sustainability of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has been repeatedly targeted by Russian airstrikes.
Further support will be directed towards Ukraine’s economic recovery, with £10 million dedicated to strengthening small and medium businesses through an economic recovery program announced as part of the “100 Year Partnership.” Another £25 million will focus on enhancing Ukraine’s social systems and services, aiming for greater inclusivity and efficiency.
Lammy is also scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, and other officials to discuss ongoing cooperation and security initiatives.
