Algeria-Russia: Cherfa Co-Chairs 12th Session of Mixed Intergovernmental Commission for Cooperation with the Russian Deputy PM

On Thursday in Algiers, Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Youcef Cherfa, co-chaired the 12th session of the Algerian-Russian intergovernmental mixed commission for economic, commercial, scientific, and technical cooperation alongside Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev.

The session was attended by several dignitaries, including Kamel Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Konstantin Moguilevsky, the Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education; Boumédiène Guennad, the Algerian Ambassador to Russia; Toufik Djouama, the Director General for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs; and Alexey Kotcheshkov, the Charge d’Affaires at the Russian Embassy, along with various officials from both countries.

During the proceedings, Cherfa highlighted that “the regular meetings of the Algerian-Russian intergovernmental mixed commission, alternating between Algiers and Moscow, illustrate the commitment of both nations’ leaders to elevate bilateral relations across multiple domains. This initiative aims to strengthen and diversify our cooperation and foster multifaceted strategic partnerships.”

He further noted that Algeria places “particular emphasis” on enhancing high-level political dialogue and economic cooperation with Russia. He recalled the signing of the Declaration of Deepened Strategic Partnership in Moscow on June 15, 2023, which has reinvigorated Algerian-Russian relations, imparting a notable strategic dimension to their partnership.
