Algerian FM Engages in Discussions in New York with Counterparts

Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, held discussions on Wednesday in New York with several counterparts from different African nations. This meeting coincided with his role in presiding over high-level meetings as part of Algeria’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council, according to a statement from the ministry.
During this engagement, Attaf met with Téte Antonio, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola; Peya Mushelenga, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia; Jeje Odongo Abubakher, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda; Musa Timothy Kabba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone; and Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Goc, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan.
Attaf’s discussions with his Angolan counterpart facilitated an exchange of views on various issues and topics on the African Union agenda, in anticipation of Angola’s upcoming presidency of this continental organization beginning next February.
The meeting between the Minister of State and his Namibian counterpart focused on exploring ways to strengthen the fraternal and cooperative relations between their two countries while continuing coordination to support just causes across the African continent.
In his talks with the Ugandan Foreign Minister, Attaf reviewed strategies for enhancing economic cooperation, following agreements made by the presidents of both countries in March 2023 in Algiers.
Discussions with the Sierra Leonean Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed measures to bolster bilateral relations within the context of implementing the decision to exchange diplomatic representation and enhance coordination at the Security Council under the A3 group.
In his conversations with the South Sudanese Foreign Minister, Attaf reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in this brotherly nation, both through its role on the United Nations Security Council and as a member of the African Union’s High-Level Ad Hoc Committee on South Sudan (C5), concluded the statement.
