The President of the Algerian National People’s Assembly Receives a Parliamentary Delegation from Slovenia

On Wednesday, Brahim Boughali, the President of the Algerian National People’s Assembly (APN), met with a parliamentary delegation from Slovenia, led by Miroslav Gregoric, head of the Slovenia-Algeria friendship group, as reported by the lower house of Parliament.

During the meeting, Boughali expressed optimism that this visit would strengthen bilateral cooperation across various domains, particularly in parliamentary and economic matters, according to the same source.

The two parties explored ways to leverage their respective parliamentary experiences in drafting legal texts and enhancing collaboration in higher education, advanced technologies, energy, and the economy. They emphasized the importance of increasing exchanges and partnerships between economic operators from both countries, especially given President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to diversifying Algeria’s sources of wealth and reducing dependence on oil.

In terms of international relations, the APN president commended Slovenia for its recognition of the State of Palestine, describing this position as “brave.” He reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast support for regional and international causes, notably the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues.

Boughali also expressed concern over “certain negative positions” taken by the European Parliament towards Algeria, hoping that “Slovenia, as a member of the European Parliament, will contribute to rebalancing these views.”

“Algeria firmly rejects any foreign interference in its internal affairs and does not accept lessons from anyone regarding human rights and freedoms,” he emphasized.

For his part, the head of the Slovenian delegation stated that his country is eager to enhance and promote bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest, highlighting the potential for exchanging expertise, particularly in parliamentary collaboration.

Regarding recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, Gregoric praised the ceasefire agreement and condemned the genocide against the Palestinian people, asserting that acknowledging the Palestinian cause, although delayed, is “a moral and humanitarian obligation.”

The meeting was attended by Monder Bouden, the APN Vice President responsible for external relations; Mohamed Khouane, the President of the Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and National Community Abroad Committee; and Maria Amraoui, the President of the Algeria-Slovenia Friendship Group, as noted in the statement.

It is noteworthy that the Slovenian delegation arrived in Algeria on Tuesday for an official visit scheduled from January 21 to 24.
