Algeria Hands Over Released Spanish National to His Authorities

On Wednesday, Algeria officially handed over the released Spanish national, Navaro Canada Joaquim, to representatives from his home country at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs. Joaquim had been abducted in mid-January along the Algerian-Malian border.
The operation was overseen by Lounès Magramane, the Secretary General of the ministry, who coordinated the transfer to the Spanish ambassador to Algeria, Fernando Moran Calvo-Sotelo.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN), security forces from the People’s National Army (ANP) had received Joaquim on Tuesday and confirmed that he was “in good health.”
The same source noted that Joaquim was on a tourist visit when he was kidnapped on January 14, 2025, in the Algerian-Malian border region, specifically within the 6th Military Region, by an armed group comprising five individuals.
Following his release, the Spanish national was transported from Tin Zaouatine Airport in the 6th Military Region to Boufarik Military Base (1 MR) aboard a special aircraft.
