Iran Open to Negotiations on Equal and Honorable Terms, President

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed readiness for negotiations with the United States, provided they are based on equal terms and respect Iranian “honor and wisdom.”

In an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran’s willingness to negotiate depends on assurances that the other side will adhere to commitments, a principle he said was lacking in past talks.

The president criticized the imposition of sanctions during negotiations, highlighting that such actions undermine trust. He reaffirmed that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons, citing inspections of its nuclear sites and calling claims to the contrary part of a campaign to spread “Iranophobia.”

Pezeshkian also accused “Israel” of sabotaging past negotiations, notably by opposing the 2015 JCPOA and engaging in actions that disrupted talks.

Pezeshkian underscored Iran’s commitment to regional peace, stressing that the country has not initiated wars in centuries. However, he warned of a strong response to any aggression, particularly from “Israel” or the United States.

Iran, he said, remains open to dialogue with the West, including ongoing discussions with European countries, provided they lead to tangible results rather than merely serving as a pretext for exerting further pressure.
