Ukraine to Ban Transit of Russian Oil to EU Following Gas Ban

Ukraine’s Parliament, Verkhovna Rada, has registered a bill aimed at implementing a direct ban on the transit of Russian oil through the country. The bill targets all types of transport infrastructure, including the Druzhba oil pipeline.

This move follows Russia’s announcement on January 1 that it can no longer transit gas through Ukraine due to the expiration of the five-year contract. As a result, natural gas prices in the European market have surged by 20%.
