US Congresswoman Greene to Introduce Bill Renaming Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America

US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene announced that she would introduce a bill on Thursday to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Greene, a Republican representative from Georgia, emphasized that the body of water belongs to the United States and should be referred to by a name that reflects this ownership.

In her statement on X, Greene confirmed that the bill was already drafted and ready to be filed. The congresswoman urged Congress to take swift action to pass the bill in line with the mandate of President-elect Donald Trump, who had earlier suggested the name change as part of his regional policy.

Greene argued that the Gulf of Mexico had been used by Mexican cartels to traffic humans, drugs, and weapons, and that Americans were the ones protecting the maritime area from foreign military threats. She said, “It’s our gulf. The rightful name is the Gulf of America and it’s what the entire world should refer to it as.”
