Ethiopia: Volcanic Eruption Strikes the Awash Fentale Region

A volcanic eruption, accompanied by frequent tremors, has occurred at Mount Dofan in the Awash Fentale region of central Ethiopia, local media reported on Friday.
“The tremors recorded in the Awash Fentale area, located approximately 230 kilometers (142 miles) from Addis Ababa, were felt as far away as the capital,” the sources noted.
Reports indicate that “in recent weeks, over a dozen minor earthquakes have been documented in the Awash Fentale region and its surroundings, raising concerns among residents regarding the implications of this seismic activity.”
“Efforts are underway to prevent loss of life, including the evacuation of at-risk residents to safer areas,” the Fana Broadcasting Corporation reported, citing regional administrator Abdu Ali.
