China’s box office revenues surged to 42.5 billion yuan (approximately $5.91 billion) in 2024, according to a report released by the National Film Administration of China on Wednesday.
Chinese films generated over 33.4 billion yuan, accounting for 78.68% of the total earnings, as indicated by the latest statistics. A remarkable 79 films each grossed over 100 million yuan at the box office, with 55 of these being domestic productions.
In addition, the country introduced more than 4,600 new large screens in urban areas during 2024, raising the total number to 90,968 across China.
City cinemas reported over one billion attendees in 2024, based on the collected data.
