Gaza’s hospitals under relentless attacks as Zionist occupation ignores WHO calls

The head of the World Health Organization on Monday called for an end to attacks on hospitals in Gaza after the Zionist occupation forces struck one and raided another in the past few days.
“Hospitals in Gaza have once again become battlegrounds, and the health system is under severe threat,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X.
“We repeat: stop attacks on hospitals. People in Gaza need access to health care. Humanitarians need access to provide health aid. Ceasefire!” he added.
The occupation forces also detained more than 240 Palestinians, including dozens of medical staff from Kamal Adwan hospital on Friday, among them its director, Hussam Abu Safiya, according to local health authorities.
Tedros, who last week was caught up in a Zionist strike against Yemen’s main airport that he said might have cost him his life, called for Abu Safiya’s immediate release and said the Al-Ahli hospital had also faced attacks.
Tedros said the WHO and partners had delivered basic medical supplies, food, and water to Gaza’s Indonesian hospital and transferred 10 critical patients to Al Shifa hospital. Yet the occupation detained four patients during the transfer, he said.
Despite the organization’s calls, the occupation has carried out attacks on both al-Wafaa and Ahli Hospitals in Gaza City, after forcing the closure of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya.
It is noteworthy that since the beginning of the Zionist occupation’s genocidal war on Gaza, nearly 1,060 cadres across the Strip have been martyred. Additionally, over 310 others have been arrested, hundreds have been injured, and around 130 ambulances have been destroyed, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Separately, at least 30 Palestinians have been martyred and dozens more wounded in the past 24 hours due to ongoing Zionist attacks. These assaults come as freezing temperatures add new dangers for forcibly displaced Palestinians seeking shelter.
Extreme cold temperatures amid harsh living conditions imposed by the Zionist occupation have claimed the lives of five infants in less than a week, with thousands of families forced to live in makeshift tents, WAFA news agency reported on Sunday.
From last night and this morning, heavy rains flooded hundreds of tents in displacement camps across various areas of the Gaza Strip. The displaced, particularly in Deir al-Balah and the Mawasi area of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, endured a harsh night as rainwater engulfed their tents and strong winds blew them away.
In addition to the harsh weather conditions, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned of “an impending famine” in the Gaza Strip, where residents are facing severe food insecurity and a lack of humanitarian aid.
At least 45,514 Palestinians have been martyred and 108,189 wounded in the Zionist occupation’s genocidal war on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, according to the local health ministry.
