The recent attacks from controversial figures like Bernard-Henri Lévy and Boualem Sansal highlight an ongoing effort to destabilize the nation. These provocateurs, cloaked in intellectual rhetoric, reveal a persistent refusal to accept Algeria’s hard-won independence and sovereignty.
Bernard-Henri Lévy, known for his interference in the affairs of sovereign states under the guise of promoting democracy, has once again used his platform in the French magazine Le Point to level accusations against Algeria. He claims that Algeria suppresses cultural freedoms, framing its opposition to figures like Boualem Sansal and Kamel Daoud as part of an effort to block French cultural influence. This narrative distorts reality and acts as a thinly veiled attack on Algeria’s cultural integrity and historical autonomy.
Boualem Sansal, often criticized for promoting external agendas, is portrayed as a victim of Algeria’s alleged repression. However, his statements and work have consistently alienated Algerians, aligning him with French far-right and Zionist ideologies. His controversial positions on issues like normalization with the zionist entity and the Western Sahara conflict have deepened the divide between him and the Algerian public. Lévy’s support for Sansal goes beyond defending a fellow intellectual; it also targets Algeria’s diplomatic achievements and sovereign policies, mocking its neutral stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its mediation efforts. Furthermore, Lévy’s dismissal of Algeria’s firm position on Western Sahara, framing it as retaliation against French President Macron’s pro-Moroccan stance, reveals his intent to undermine Algeria’s influence and autonomy.
The timing of these attacks is significant. As Algeria continues to assert its regional and international influence, detractors increase their efforts to destabilize the nation. Lévy’s past interference during Algeria’s Hirak movement, aimed at exploiting calls for reform to serve external interests, serves as a clear example of this agenda. However, Algeria remains resolute in rejecting foreign interference. The nation’s deep sensitivity to manipulation, especially from France, is rooted in a history of colonial oppression that ended with immense sacrifice. Today, Algeria stands strong, with its governance and strategic independence providing no room for external pressure.
The calculated campaigns led by figures like Bernard-Henri Lévy and Boualem Sansal expose an enduring colonial mindset that seeks to destabilize Algeria. Yet, the Algerian people’s unity and resistance to these subversive tactics send a powerful message: the era of domination is over, and Algeria’s sovereignty remains unshakable.
