AMG 2024: Algerian Military Shooting Team Clinches 32 Medals

The national military shooting team has achieved remarkable success at the 2nd African Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria, securing a total of 32 medals, including 11 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze. This accomplishment was announced in a press release from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN). The games will continue until November 30.

Excitement resonated throughout the “Mashood Abiola National” Stadium as athlete Zahra Tatar clinched the gold medal in the hammer throw, surpassing competitors from Nigeria, South Africa, and other nations.

In judo, the national military team excelled by earning five gold medals across both men’s and women’s categories. Notable victories came from Lili Mehdi (100kg) and Benchaalal Dihiya (78kg), alongside the team’s success in the team event. Additionally, Lokmane Daghoul and Abdelkader Fetouh each secured bronze medals.

The national military volleyball team also displayed an impressive performance, winning the gold medal after defeating their Sierra Leonean counterparts with a commanding score of 3-0.

In athletics, Hichem Mechicha finished third in the 3000m steeplechase, earning a bronze medal, while his teammate Dhiae Chérif Boudoumi also claimed bronze in the triple jump.

The 2nd African Military Games feature elite athletes from around 25 African countries, showcasing their skills, endurance, and teamwork across 19 sports disciplines.
