Floods in Southern Thailand Claim Two Lives, Displace Thousands

Flooding in southern Thailand has resulted in two deaths and displaced thousands, authorities confirmed on Thursday, November 28. The floods, which have affected several areas since Wednesday, have caused widespread devastation as rising waters inundated homes.
In Pattani, Governor Pateemoh Sadeeyamu reported that a 42-year-old woman with memory issues was found in a paddy field near her home, and a 26-year-old man was discovered inside his house. Twelve districts in Pattani have been submerged, with water levels reaching up to two meters due to overflowing from the Pattani and Saiburi Rivers. Over 20,000 families have been affected and are being relocated to safer areas.
In nearby Narathiwat, Governor Trakul Totham reported significant flooding that has disrupted business activities across 13 districts. The Golok, Saiburi, and Bannara Rivers have overflowed by up to one meter, affecting 154,535 people from 42,285 families across 76 sub-districts and 540 villages. Thailand’s national police chief, Pol. Gen. Kittharath Punpetch, has instructed local police divisions to assist communities in the affected areas until the situation stabilizes.
