Algeria is making a significant investment of $2.8 billion to expand and modernize its rail network, with the goal of achieving complete national connectivity by 2035. This ambitious project includes the acquisition of high-capacity locomotives, passenger cars, high-speed trains, and freight coaches, all aimed at improving the efficiency and reach of Algeria’s transportation system.
Managed by the National Company of Rail Transport (SNTF), the project is being rolled out in multiple stages, including the purchase of 400 new train coaches. In addition to upgrading the rolling stock, the initiative also features electrification projects and the construction of new rail lines, which will help reduce travel times and facilitate economic development throughout the country.
With a focus on bridging regional gaps, enhancing mobility, and boosting economic opportunities, the rail expansion plan is expected to have a transformative impact on Algeria’s transportation infrastructure.
