Iran Urges OPCW to Investigate Zionist Use of Chemical Weapons in Palestine and Lebanon

Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs, has called on the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to investigate the use of chemical and other banned weapons by the Zionist entity in Palestine and Lebanon. Gharibabadi made this appeal during his visit to The Hague for the 29th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CSP-29).

In a meeting with OPCW Director-General Fernando Arias, Gharibabadi urged the OPCW to apply pressure on the Zionist entity to join the Chemical Weapons Convention and allow international monitoring of its chemical facilities. He also highlighted the role of the United States in violating the Convention’s provisions, particularly through its unilateral sanctions, and called for efforts to ensure that Iranian victims of chemical attacks receive essential medical aid.

Gharibabadi commended the OPCW’s work in eliminating declared chemical weapons, though he acknowledged delays from some weapon holders. Arias, for his part, praised Iran’s active participation in OPCW discussions and expressed efforts to facilitate the delivery of medical aid to Iranian chemical attack victims. The meeting also covered ways to enhance cooperation between Iran and the OPCW moving forward.
