Colombia: Four Soldiers Killed in ELN Attack

Four Colombian soldiers were killed in northern Colombia in an attack attributed to the ELN (National Liberation Army), as announced by the military in a statement on Thursday.
“We condemn and reject this cowardly terrorist attack involving explosive devices,” said the military, referring to the incident that took place in the department of Antioquia, specifically in a rural area of the municipality of Anorí. However, they did not provide the exact date of the attack.
The statement also reported that four additional soldiers and one civilian sustained injuries, linking the assault to the ELN guerrilla group.
This incident marks the first attack by the ELN since peace negotiations between the armed group and the government resumed on November 7. These discussions had been halted for several months due to disagreements and a deadly assault on a military base. The talks restarted in Caracas, Venezuela, but both parties have yet to agree on the resumption of a ceasefire.
A week later, the military reported killing 13 members of the ELN during two operations conducted in the Bolivar department (northeast) and near the Venezuelan border.
