G20 Summit: Leaders reaffirm commitment to multilateralism, pledge reform of global governance

RIO DE JANEIRO – The G20 leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and pledged to reform the global governance system, according to the Leaders’ Declaration from the Rio de Janeiro summit, released on Tuesday.
The leaders committed to advancing a revitalised multilateral system grounded in the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter and international law, emphasising the need for renewed institutions and a more representative, efficient, and reformed governance framework.
Additionally, they pledged to undertake a transformative reform of the United Nations Security Council, aiming to align it with 21st-century realities and make it “more representative, inclusive, and effective.”
The two-day summit, held on November 18-19, was hosted by Brazil under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” bringing together the world’s twenty largest economies.
