Sonatrach Accelerates Seawater Desalination Projects with New Equipment Shipment

ALGIERS – The Sonatrach Group received at Houari Boumediene International Airport a new shipment of equipment, delivered by cargo plane, to support the construction of five seawater desalination plants, according to a statement from the Group.

“In line with the program launched by President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening water security in Algeria through seawater desalination as part of the complementary national program for the construction of five large desalination plants with a total capacity of 1.5 million m³/day, Sonatrach, through its subsidiaries and following the directives of the Group’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, has launched a new airlift to transport equipment and materials for these projects,” according to the source.

This airlift uses “the largest cargo planes in the world to ensure somooth execution of the project,” the source added.

As part of this initiative, the Group “received a new shipment containing 72 tons of equipment aboard a plane that landed this morning at Houari Boumediene International Airport.

The shipment included heat exchangers for medium-pressure stations, intended for the seawater desalination project in Tighremt (Béjaïa).”

The shipment was received by representatives from the Algerian Energy Company (AEC) and the National Pipeline Company (ENAC), subsidiaries of the Sonatrach Group, the statement added.
