Growing fears of WWIII scenario following Biden’s missile decision

MOSCOW – Russian lawmaker Maria Butina said on Monday that the administration of President Joe Biden was risking World War III following the latter’s decision to allow Ukraine to use U.S.-made weapons to strike deep into Russia, according to Reuters, citing two U.S. officials.
“These guys, Biden’s administration, are trying to escalate the situation to the maximum while they still have power and are still in office,” Butina told Reuters.
“I have a great hope that (Donald) Trump will overcome this decision if this has been made because they are seriously risking the start of World War Three, which is not in anybody’s interest.”
It is noteworthy that the U.S. has not formally confirmed its decision, but reports have been emerging in U.S. media, including the New York Times. The Kremlin has yet to comment on these reports.
According to the sources, the potential strikes will be carried out using ATACMS rockets, which have a range of up to 190 miles (306 km).
President-elect Donald Trump will take office on January 20, and it remains unclear whether he will reverse Biden’s decision, especially given his criticism of the scale of U.S. financial and military aid to Ukraine.
A Trump spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
President Vladimir Putin has long warned that Russia could resort to nuclear weapons if it detects the start of a large-scale missile, aircraft, or drone attack against its territory.
In late October, Putin stated that Russia’s defence ministry was exploring various responses in case the United States and its NATO allies contribute to strikes deep within Russia using long-range Western missiles.
