British Surgeon Tells UK MPs Gaza “Resembles Hiroshima”

Doctors and medical staff in Gaza delivered a harrowing account of the healthcare crisis to UK Members of Parliament (MPs) on Tuesday, describing overwhelmed hospitals, critical shortages of medical supplies, and continuous violence impacting civilians. Speaking to the International Development Committee, they detailed scenes of relentless attacks and the dire effects of blockade restrictions.
British professor Nizam Mamode, a former transplant surgery specialist who worked in Gaza’s Nasser Hospital, described the devastation in the besieged enclave, likening it to the aftermath of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He shared his experience of treating children and civilians injured by small, cuboid pellets from drone-fired bullets, including a three-year-old who later died due to infection. Mamode highlighted severe shortages, noting that basic supplies like swabs, sterile gloves, and essential medicines were blocked at the border, leaving many wounds untreated and susceptible to infection and death.
Doctors also reported widespread malnutrition, rampant diseases such as Hepatitis A due to poor sanitation, and the deliberate targeting of aid convoys by Zionist forces. The testimony underscored the grave situation for Gaza’s population, with many forced to move multiple times and live in constant fear, facing what Mamode described as the “uncounted costs of war.”
