The 27th International Book Fair of Algiers (SILA) officially opened its doors on Thursday at the Exhibition Palace in Algiers, drawing a large crowd on the inaugural day of Algeria’s most significant literary and cultural event.
From the outset, visitors—predominantly young people—converged on the central pavilion, the most attractive area of the Exhibition Palace. This section houses numerous publishing houses that specialize in literary, intellectual, and scientific publications, as well as school and extracurricular textbooks, dictionaries, religious texts, and more.
The pavilion dedicated to Qatar, this edition’s “guest of honor,” captivated those interested in the culture and literature of this Arab nation. It features a diverse array of books and works focused on Qatar’s history, culture, heritage, and architectural art.
Over the course of ten days, visitors will have the chance to meet many Algerian and foreign authors who will present their latest works and participate in various conferences and discussions as part of SILA’s cultural program.
Under the slogan “Read to Triumph,” this year’s 27th edition of SILA coincides with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the momentous Revolution of November 1, 1954. The fair will host contributions from 1,007 publishers across 40 countries, including 290 from Algeria, showcasing over 300,000 titles.
Officially inaugurated on Wednesday by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, the fair will continue until November 16 and will be open to the public daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
