Moldova’s Socialist Party Rejects Voting at Foreign Polling Stations

Moldova’s Socialist Party announced on Monday that it does not recognize the results of voting conducted at foreign polling stations, which contributed to the declaration of incumbent President Maia Sandu as the winner of the recent presidential election. The runoff for the two-round election took place on Sunday, with Sandu currently leading with 55.41% of the votes, compared to her opponent, former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, who garnered 44.59%, based on 99.86% of ballots counted at the time of the report.
The Socialist Party labeled Sandu the “president of the diaspora,” reflecting their stance that the foreign votes should not be counted in the final results. Their rejection underscores ongoing political tensions in Moldova regarding electoral processes and the influence of the diaspora in domestic politics.
