Chad: Legislative and local elections to be held on December

The legislative and local elections in Chad will take place on December 29, as announced by Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby.
President Mahamat Idriss Déby convened political party leaders on Friday to inform them of the decision to hold the elections on December 29, according to media reports.
“The phenomenon of flooding… will not affect the course of the process,” affirmed the president, according to the media.
On October 9, the Chadian government had called for nationwide mobilisation in response to flooding caused by torrential rains and further exacerbated by the rising waters of the Chari River.
These floods have resulted in at least 576 deaths since July and affected more than 1.9 million people, according to the latest report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Chad.
The Chadian National Election Management Agency (ANGE) announced on August 21 that the legislative, provincial, and municipal elections would be held on December 29, 2024.
