China and Vietnam sign economic agreements on railway connections

HANOI – Vietnam and China signed a series of economic agreements on Sunday to strengthen their railway connections and trade cooperation.
The ten agreements, signed during Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s visit to Hanoi, specifically include a project to establish a railway link between Lao Cai in northern Vietnam and Hekou in China, as well as a memorandum of understanding to implement a cross-border payment system using QR codes.
During a meeting on Saturday, the Chinese government head and President To Lam agreed to “maintain regular high-level exchanges and cooperation in defence, security, and diplomacy,” according to the Vietnamese public newspaper Nhan Dan.
The same source reports that Vietnam aims to facilitate Chinese investments in high technology, while China seeks to improve access for Vietnamese agricultural products to its market.
