OCHA: Intensive Zionist airstrikes exacerbate humanitarian crisis in Lebanon

New York (United Nations) – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reiterated warning of the “rapid deterioration” of the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, fuelled by intensive airstrikes and evacuation orders.

According to a report from the United Nations Information Centre on Sunday, the UN office shed light on the increasing casualties, with 2,169 martyrs and 10,212 others injured so far.

The UN office also noted that “continuous attacks on essential services, including healthcare facilities and water supply projects, have disrupted access to these vital services.”

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs added that the forced evacuation orders issued by the Zionist forces, which are often given shortly before an attack, affected at least 110 villages across the south.

The World Health Organisation warned that the waves of displacement in Lebanon significantly increase public health risks, as overcrowded shelters contribute to the spread of infections, especially amid the lack of water supplies.

It also highlighted that ongoing hostilities and displacement worsen the challenges women and other vulnerable groups face in accessing basic services. Additionally, mobility issues prevent these groups, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities, from fleeing conflict zones.

According to the UN World Food Programme, 40% of farmers in southern Lebanon have been displaced since October 7, leading to major disruption in food production, which has exacerbated in the aftermath of the Zionist ground incursion and full-scale aerial bombardment.

It is noteworthy that the food security in Lebanon was precarious even before the Zionist aggression, yet the current attacks are triggering acute hunger rates across the country, particularly in the south.
