UNIFIL rejects Zionist orders to retreat from Southern Lebanon positions

BAABDA (Lebanon) – The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has refused to retreat five kilometres further north into Lebanese territory as ordered by the Zionist forces, who have repeatedly targeted the peacekeepers, sparking international outrage, said UNIFIL’s spokesperson on Saturday.

“There was a unanimous decision for us to stay because the UN flag must fly in this area,” explained Andrea Tenenti, spokesperson for the 10,000-strong peacekeeping force, to AFP.

The Zionist soldiers opened fire several times on UNIFIL positions, injuring at least four soldiers.

On Friday, the ten elected members of the UN Security Council expressed their “deep concern” about these attacks.

In a press release, they called on “all parties to respect international humanitarian law and the safety of UNIFIL personnel and facilities.”

They emphasised that “any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a serious violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council Resolution 1701 (related to the borders between Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian Territories).”

The ten elected members reiterated their “support for UNIFIL and underscored its role in supporting regional stability.”
