Batna: Geoffrey Marcy Reflects on 64 Years of Searching for Extraterrestrial Intelligence

American astronomer and physicist Geoffrey Marcy from the University of California presented an overview of his extensive scientific journey today at Algerian University Batna 1, highlighting 64 years dedicated to the search for intelligent life in the universe.
During his talk in the university’s main lecture hall, this renowned scientist—acknowledged as a pioneer in exoplanet research—shared invaluable insights bolstered by data and images that illustrated his key findings and significant discoveries related to planets, stars, and the ongoing pursuit of extraterrestrial life.
Delivered in English, the lecture drew a large audience of students and researchers, filling the hall to capacity. It was followed by a lively discussion on astronomy and the universe we inhabit.
Hamada Haba, Dean of the Faculty of Material Sciences at Batna 1 University, highlighted that the event offered an exceptional opportunity for doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students from both Batna 1 and 2 Universities, as well as participants from the National School of Renewable Energies, Environment, and Sustainable Development in Fesdis, Batna—particularly those involved in space and Earth sciences—to learn from the expertise of this distinguished researcher, who is recognized for numerous groundbreaking discoveries on an international scale.
This initiative to host such a prominent scientific figure was organized by the Faculty of Material Sciences at Batna 1 University as part of an ongoing effort to provide training for researchers and students, allowing them to engage with and learn from highly qualified scientists and specialists.
