Space Exploration’s Importance Highlighted by Mexican Astrophysicist in Algiers

ALGIERS – Mexican researcher and astrophysicist Itziar Aretxaga underscored on Tuesday in Algiers the crucial role of space exploration in understanding the universe’s dimensions through the observation of galaxies using advanced and purpose-built tools.

On the occasion of World Space Week, an annual UN event from October 4-10, the Algerian Academy of Sciences and Technologies (AST) hosted a conference on “Galaxies and the Edges of the Visible Universe and Beyond.”

On this occasion, Itziar Aretxaga delivered a presentation on the dimensions of the universe through the observation and exploration of galaxies.

In the presence of an initiated audience, students and researchers at the Algerian Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics (CRAAG), the conference addressed the significance of space exploration in understanding and discovering far-off galaxies.

The director of the Algerian National Institute of Optical Astronomy (INAO) in Mexico provided an overview of the Universe’s stellar formation history and how galaxies contribute to the formation of dust-rich stars in deep extragalactic fields.

Nassim Seghaouni, research director at CRAAG, noted that the 45th International School of Astronomy kicked off on September 15, with the participation of astronomy students and researchers.

Seghaouni also touched upon the establishment of a National Astronomy Observatory in Khenchela. He said that this CRAAG-led project will enable Algeria to “develop space observation” through developed exploration and monitoring tools.
