ALGIERS – The Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui received on Tuesday at the Government Palace a delegation from the Republic of Niger, led by the Minister of Petroleum, Sahabi Oumarou, who is on a working visit to Algeria, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Nigerien Minister conveyed greetings from the Nigerien President Abdourahmane Tchiani to his counterpart, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reiterating his sincere congratulations on his re-election for a second term.
The discussions addressed “current regional situations, particularly in the Sahel region,” where both sides praised the brotherly relations, solidarity, and cooperation existing between the two countries that are witnessing remarkable activity thanks to the special attention given by the leaders of both countries to continuously strengthen the historic bilateral relations.
Regarding bilateral cooperation, the Nigerien Minister expressed his “great satisfaction” with the results of his visit, which follows the visit of Niger’s Prime Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, to Algeria last August, highlighting the quality of discussions he had with Algerian officials aimed at enhancing cooperation, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector.
They specifically discussed the commencement of the implementation of the “Kafra” project following the completion of plans and related work programs, as well as capacity building through training and benefiting from Algeria’s experience in the hydrocarbons sector, especially in oil refining.
The two sides also addressed the importance of the trans-Saharan gas pipeline project, emphasising its “strategic nature and important role in enhancing integration in the region,” as well as the necessity of continuing coordination meetings to accelerate its implementation, agreeing to hold the tripartite meeting in Algeria before the end of the current year in coordination with all relevant parties.
