Hyundai Motor celebrates milestone of 100 million units produced

SEOUL – The South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. announced on Monday that it has surpassed the milestone of 100 million units in cumulative production, reported the Yonhap news agency.
The company said it delivered its 100 millionth and first vehicle, Ioniq 5, directly to a customer. The vehicle rolled off the final inspection conveyor belt at the plant’s shipping centre during a handover ceremony.
“Reaching global cumulative production of 100 million vehicles is a meaningful milestone that was possible thanks to our customers around the world who have chosen and supported Hyundai Motor since the very beginning,” said Chang Jae-hoon, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor.
Last year, Hyundai Motor established the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center Singapore, a new concept of smart urban mobility hub.
The manufacturing platforms and advanced technologies developed there, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart factories, are set to be implemented in future production facilities.
Hyundai entered the domestic automobile market in 1968 and began exporting in 1976. Its best-selling model is the Avante (or Elantra), with 15.37 million units sold, followed by the Accent (10.25 million), Sonata (9.48 million), Tucson (9.36 million), and Santa Fe (5.95 million).
The company’s target now is diversifying its offerings, including the introduction of electric vehicles like the Ioniq 5, in addition to expanding internationally with plants in the United States, India, Turkey, and the Czech Republic.
