Algeria: APN Speaker receives Slovenia’s President of the National Assembly

ALGIERS – The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, received on Saturday the President of Slovenia’s National Assembly, Ms. Urska Klakocar Zupancic, who came to Algeria on an official, said APN in a statement.

During the meeting, Mr. Boughali discussed the bilateral relations between Algeria and Slovenia, noting that this visit comes at a time when their bilateral cooperation is “experiencing a new beginning.”

He also mentioned that relations have been invigorated following the visit of the Slovenian Prime Minister to Algeria last May, which resulted in the signing of several cooperation agreements.

Mr. Boughali highlighted the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries, noting that Algeria is “the main supplier of gas to Slovenia,” which he said reflects “the depth of relations between the two nations.”

For her part, Ms. Zupancic seized the opportunity to congratulate President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on his re-election for a second term, adding that Algeria is “an important partner” for Slovenia. She emphasised the significance of bilateral cooperation in “promoting trade relations in areas beyond energy.”

Regarding international issues, both parties reiterated the call for “the implementation of Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza,” urging “the international community to fulfil its responsibilities to advance the political process toward a fair and definitive solution ensuring the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.”

On the question of Western Sahara, both countries affirmed their “support for the political process led by the United Nations to achieve a fair, lasting, and definitive solution that allows the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with the resolutions of the General Assembly and the Security Council.”
