ALGIERS – The Minister of Oil of the Republic of Niger, Sahabi Oumarou, is scheduled to begin a working visit to Algeria on Saturday, aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, particularly hydrocarbons, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
During this visit, Mr. Oumarou will lead an important delegation composed of officials from the Prime Ministry, the Nigerien hydrocarbon sector, and the Nigerien oil company. This visit reflects the mutual desire to open new avenues for developing relations between the two countries, the statement noted.
These relations are experiencing constant and notable development, thanks to reciprocal visits by high-ranking officials from both countries, aimed at implementing existing cooperation programs and finalising joint development projects, notably Sonatrach’s exploration project and the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP), added the same source.
This visit follows the trip by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, to the Republic of Niger on August 6 and 7, 2024.
The agenda for the Nigerien Oil Minister’s visit to Algeria includes several meetings, particularly with the Minister of Energy and Mines and other officials, as well as visits to energy facilities and training institutes in the sector, to explore ways to diversify and expand bilateral cooperation into other areas such as refining and petrochemicals, benefiting from Algeria’s expertise in these fields.
