Western Sahara: Ghali Condemns Support for Moroccan Narrative

Sahrawi President Brahim Ghali has denounced the “indecent positions” taken by certain parties endorsing the Moroccan colonial narrative concerning Western Sahara. He urged the Security Council and the United Nations to fulfill their responsibilities in finalizing the decolonization process of the last remaining colony in Africa.

In a speech delivered during the opening of the 5th ordinary session of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front on Thursday, President Ghali criticized these “indecent positions,” particularly citing a statement made by the French president, which he labeled as “a blatant violation of the UN Charter and an invitation for the occupying Moroccan forces to disregard international law and humanitarian standards.”

Moreover, the Sahrawi President underscored the obligations of both the international Security Council and the UN regarding the completion of the decolonization process in this final African colony. He also called upon the African Union (AU) to “uphold the principles and objectives of its Constitutive Act,” especially the respect for inherited borders upon achieving independence. He cautioned against “the dangers posed by the occupying Moroccan state and its scandalous practices, as recently observed in Japan, which threaten the unity and cohesion of the continental organization.”

Additionally, President Ghali expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples in the face of brutal Zionist aggression, emphasizing that “peace and stability in the world cannot be achieved without adherence to international legal resolutions and the recognition of people’s legitimate rights to self-determination.”
