Algeria: FM Ahmed Attaf engaged in bilateral talks with international counterparts and officials

The Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held bilateral talks on Monday in New York with several counterparts, as well as officials from international organisations during his participation in the Summit of the Future, according to a ministry statement.

FM Attaf met with the Tunisian Foreign Minister, Mohamed Ali Nafti; the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Taye Atske Selassie; the Burundian Foreign Minister and Cooperation Minister, Albert Shingiro; the Cape Verdean Foreign Minister, Rui Alberto De Figueiredo Soares; the Cypriot Foreign Minister, Konstantinos Kombos; and Rola Abdulla Dashti, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

In his meeting with the Tunisian counterpart, Attaf reviewed the exceptional dynamics characterising the cooperative relations between the two countries and discussed ways to strengthen them, in line with the wishes of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Tunisian counterpart Kais Saied to elevate these ties to the highest levels. The two sides also discussed upcoming ministerial meetings.

The discussions with the Ethiopian Foreign Minister provided an opportunity for both parties to consult and exchange views on various issues within the framework of the African Union (AU) and the preparations for the Algerian-Ethiopian Joint Commission.

During his meeting with the Burundian Foreign Minister, FM Attaf discussed the prospects for strengthening bilateral relations and several issues of mutual interest at the continental level.

Additionally, the conversation with the Cape Verdean Foreign Minister allowed them to examine upcoming AU-related deadlines and discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

The talks between FM Attaf and the Cypriot Foreign Minister involved exchanging views and analyses on key international and regional issues, as well as exploring opportunities to promote bilateral relations.

Finally, the minister’s meeting with the ESCWA Executive Secretary focused on strengthening cooperation in areas related to achieving sustainable development goals, in accordance with the outcomes of her visit to Algeria last May, the statement concluded.
