Sri Lanka: Dissanayaka declared winner of presidential elections

COLOMBO – Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, leader of the leftist coalition, has been proclaimed the winner of the presidential elections in Sri Lanka, according to the electoral commission.
“Following the complete counting of votes, Kumara Dissanayaka (55 years old) received 42.3% of the ballots,” the commission announced on its website.
He surpassed the leader of the parliamentary opposition, Sajith Premadasa (centre-right), who garnered 32.7% of the votes, and the outgoing president, Ranil Wickremesinghe (75 years old), who received 17.2%.
The inauguration ceremony for the newly elected president is scheduled for Monday morning, according to the electoral commission.
