Mexico: 30 Civilians Killed in Wave of Violence in Northern Region

Since a wave of violence erupted on September 9 in the state of Sinaloa, northwestern Mexico, at least 30 civilians have been killed, according to Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval.

During President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily press conference on Tuesday, Sandoval indicated that the federal government is enhancing security measures in the region to combat the escalating violence, which has also resulted in the deaths of two soldiers.

Authorities have apprehended at least 30 suspects linked to organized crime and confiscated 115 firearms.

This recent surge in violence follows clashes between rival drug trafficking groups.

The Mexican president emphasized that his administration, which is set to conclude this month, is actively working to put an end to the conflict and safeguard local residents. “We are closely monitoring the situation in Sinaloa,” the president reassured the press at the national palace in Mexico City.
