Typhoon Yagi Claims 220 Lives in Northern Vietnam (Updated Toll)

Typhoon Yagi, along with the landslides and flooding it triggered, has resulted in 220 fatalities in northern Vietnam, according to reports released on Thursday. The overall death toll across the country, which has been most severely affected by the floods and landslides following the typhoon, now stands at 226, an increase from the 197 reported on Wednesday.
Yagi struck Vietnam last weekend, unleashing torrential rains that inundated much of the northern region. Powerful winds subsequently swept through Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar, leading to deadly landslides and flooding in numerous rivers.
In Myanmar, rescuers announced on Thursday that they had recovered 17 bodies from flooded villages in the Mandalay region, where tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate their homes. Thailand has confirmed nine fatalities.
