
ALGIERS – Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who won a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has been named “Champion for Children’s Rights” by UNICEF Algeria.
“This ceremony was organised to honour the inspiring journey of Olympic champion Imane Khelif and to highlight her ongoing commitment to the children’s rights agenda since her appointment as UNICEF’s national ambassador on December 31, 2023,” stated UNICEF in a press release.
The ceremony was attended by Alejandro Alvarez, the UN Resident Coordinator in Algeria, and several representatives from UN agencies in Algeria along with their families.
In response, the Algerian Olympic champion expressed her gratitude, saying, “I thank the UNICEF family for this honour. I dedicate my Paris Olympics medal to all the children. I am aware of the great responsibility of being a UNICEF ambassador, which I’m proud of, and I am determined to continue working with the organisation and to be a role model for children and youth.”
