Algeria’s Presidential Elections 2024 : Polling stations to open nationwide

ALGIERS – Polling stations opened their doors today at 8:00 AM across the entire national territory, where over 24 million Algerians are called to elect a new president for a five-year term.

According to figures from the Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE), the electorate totals 24,351,551 voters, including 23,486,061 within the national territory, with 47% women, 53% men, and 36% under the age of 40.

In accordance with the electoral system’s organic law, voting concludes at 7:00 PM on the same day. However, the ANIE President may, upon request from the ANIE delegation coordinator for the wilaya, decide to extend voting hours in certain municipalities or electoral districts to facilitate the voting process for electors.

It is noteworthy that the Algerian diaspora, which includes a total electorate of 865,490 (45% women and 55% men), began voting last Monday.

Moreover, for the mobile polling stations serving nomadic populations in remote southern areas, the voting began on Wednesday and involved 116,064 registered voters across 134 polling stations in 51 municipalities spread over 16 wilayas.

Voting for these mobile polling stations was scheduled to start 72, 48, and 24 hours in advance to further facilitate the voting process.
