The Algerian group Sonelgaz announced on Sunday the commencement of exporting a shipment of electric vehicle charging columns as part of its strategy to diversify exports beyond hydrocarbons.
According to the group’s spokesperson, Khalil Hedna, and in line with Algeria’s energy transition commitments, the initial production from the electric vehicle charging column factory—a subsidiary of Sonelgaz’s Algerian Electrical and Gas Industry branch—was allocated to the national market. After satisfying domestic demand, Sonelgaz has now shifted to exporting these columns to diversify its sources of foreign currency.
The operation is the first under the contract signed, which specifies the export of 433 medium-power charging columns (60 kW) and high-power fast-charging columns (322 kW) to Libya and Italy.
The spokesperson confirmed that the electric charging columns were manufactured entirely by Sonelgaz’s industrial arm, adhering to international standards with a national integration rate of 58%, which the group aims to increase in the coming months.
Khalil Hedna also disclosed that several other contracts are in advanced stages of negotiation for exporting electric vehicle charging columns to European countries and other regions in the Middle East.
