US: Wildfires Ravage 178,000 Hectares on Montana-Wyoming Border

Four wildfires in southeastern Montana and northern Wyoming have devastated a total of 178,000 hectares (approximately 1,814 square kilometers) of land, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Southwest Incident Management Team.

The team, composed of personnel from various federal, state, and local agencies specializing in large-scale disaster management, plays a crucial role in efforts to contain the ongoing fires, particularly those at Flat Rock, Remington, Constitution, and House Draw.

The Remington wildfire, which ignited 32 kilometers northeast of Leiter, Wyoming, is also impacting several counties in southeastern Montana. As of Tuesday, it has burned 794 square kilometers of land and remains only 5% contained, authorities reported, although they noted that the fire’s intensity has significantly decreased.

The House Draw fire, which has consumed 706 square kilometers, is now 88% contained.

In total, 581 firefighters are deployed across 14 teams to combat the blazes, supported by 14 helicopters, 50 trucks, 8 bulldozers, and 7 water tenders.
