Nigeria: 30 Lives Lost Due to Floods Affecting 27 States

According to Nigerian emergency services, heavy rainfall that swept across 27 states has resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals. This information was reported on Tuesday.

Ezekiel Manzo, spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), revealed that the fatalities occurred in Jigawa State in the northern region of the country, with approximately 227,000 others affected by the floods triggered by the intense rainfall.

In a statement, Haruna Meiriga, Secretary-General of the Nigerian Emergency Agency, highlighted that “rainwater has inundated 4,699 homes and damaged 9,379 hectares of farmland due to the flooding” in Jigawa State.

Earlier, the Nigerian Ministry of Water Resources issued warnings regarding the anticipated heavy rains and the potential for flooding in various regions throughout Nigeria.
