The UN denounces the “unacceptable” Zionist violence against humanitarian workers

NEW YORK (United Nations) – The UN condemned on Monday the “unacceptable” violence increasingly directed at humanitarian workers, with 280 killed in 2023—a record amplified in 2024 by the Zionist genocide in Gaza.
“The normalisation of violence against humanitarian workers and the lack of accountability are unacceptable, inadmissible, and extremely dangerous for humanitarian operations everywhere,” denounced Joyce Msuya, Acting Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day.
“With 280 humanitarian workers killed in 33 countries last year, 2023 was the deadliest year ever recorded for the international humanitarian community,” with a 137% increase compared to 2022 (118 killed), OCHA highlighted in a statement, using figures from the Aid Worker Security Database. Accordingly, the UN warned that 2024 is expected to witness even a more staggering death toll.
In the occupied Palestinian territories, 121 humanitarian workers were killed between January 1 and August 9, 2024, according to the Aid Worker Security Database. Meanwhile in Gaza, more than 280 have been killed since October, most of whom were employees of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), according to the United Nations.
